New home wanted for Ted (“Bean”) Ted Kelpiebrink
Date of birth: 31-03-2019
Parents: Callicoma Coconut Ice (Co)
Morrigan Kelpiebrink
Health: no details. Vaccinations, including rabies, are up to date. Ted is a healthy, intact male.
Interaction with cats: He has not really come into contact with cats except outside in the garden and on the street and then he likes to chase them.
Interaction with other dogs: bitches and neutered males are no problem.
Behavior towards children: Ted is an enthusiastic but clumsy Kelpie. He can be rough and uncouth.
Fears: Ted is afraid of fireworks and loud bangs.
For the past 2.5 years he has been taking private lessons in recreational agility. He knows almost all the equipment and can run simple courses. The owner has to make it fun, otherwise he is distracted. In that case he tends to chase cars that drive past the field.
Commands he knows (in Dutch): sit, stay, down, place, paw, stop, down, let go, no, yes, ready, go, through, over, around, left, right, forward, up, forward.
Daily schedule: Ted’s day starts around 6am with a long walk of about 4km, then he gets his food, and after breakfast he is ready for a game and then his preference is tug-of-war and sometimes a ball game. He is used to being alone for about 6 hours. When the owners come home in the afternoon they do a short walk in the park and some search games in the lighter days of the year, and then a medium to long walk after dinner. And in the darker days of the year they do the medium to long walk in the afternoon and the short walk after dinner.
Reason for rehoming: Ted is in a chronic stress situation. The domestic circumstances are such that rehoming is necessary.
Explanation:
Things have grown unbalanced in the home situation. For a long time, there have been tensions within the family in various areas.
Ted has found himself in a chronic stress situation in which he has to cope. This leads to unwanted situations.
The master of the house is actually Ted’s boss but is often abroad due to his work. The lady of the house and the daughter are not in charge of Ted and also have little to no interest in the dog.
This has manifested itself twice in a sniping incident (dog was in deep sleep on the sofa and was startled awake).
General character and situation description:
Essentially a good-natured, enthusiastic, sensitive, cheerful and headstrong clumsy boy who tries to hold his own in a longer-lasting tense situation and has learned to take charge.
What are we looking for?
A situation where someone can offer Ted a stable environment (peace, regularity, structure). An environment where he can relax and where he is no longer forced to take charge.
People who have time for him, do fun things with him but are also good at setting clear limits, can control his will and can give him a consistent upbringing. No children but have experience in working with dogs.
