“Cody”found a new home

New Home Wanted for:

Pasteur Kelpiebrink (call name: Cody)

Date of birth 21-05-2021

Parents: Allie Caobrink and Pipo Kelpiebrink

living in Almelo.

“Cody” has been neutered. This suited the owner better because of the dog care centre where Cody regularly stays.

Reason for distance is a new relationship.

This is the description given by the owner (taken over word-for-word):

Cody is a dog who likes almost everything and everyone, is socially very skilled with people and animals.

Everyone meeting Cody is greeted by a sweet, waggling dog. If he has seen you a few times, that is joined by very happy squeaks and even more enthusiasm. He is crazy about children.

When we meet other dogs, he sniffs and acts but seldom goes to play with a dog, he is very selective about who he plays with but he does accept another dog. He also shows very well when a dog wants something from him that he does not want, he will not be pushed around. He is used to going to a day-care centre a few times a week where he is with 20-30 dogs all day, outside or inside on the couch. (No cages!) There he is called ‘Casanova’ because he wins over every female.

Cody grew up with cats around him and they are close buddies and also sleep together sometimes. Strange cats he will run after.

Swimming is 1 of his favourite activities, a huge run-up and a jump of a few metres into the water is normal. While walking/running in the woods, we always take a frisbee with us, which he then runs around with, or runs after when we throw it. He is also an eager tracker, on the moors I often throw a stick far away, out of sight after which he gets the command ‘Find’ and 99 out of 100 times he finds the stick again. Sometimes in 5 seconds, sometimes a few minutes.

Cody is a Kelpie and therefore also has the energy of a Kelpie. He prefers to run loose and pulls on the lead. He knows the command ‘follow’ but finds that difficult to keep up. He is sensitive to stimuli, if we go somewhere to eat/sit/drink, he keeps an eye on everything and cannot/will not really sit/lie still. You can also see this when you are in the car with him, keeping an eye on everything, walking back and forth. On longer drives, he does end up lying down now and then.

At home, he is a quiet dog and gives you back what you give him. If you are calm at home he is, if you play wildly with him, he is totally on. He is also watchful. Leaving him alone is no problem, 4.5 hours is the maximum I left him alone and that went fine.

Cody is very eager to learn, as soon as you start teaching him something he goes into a kind of hyper-alert mode and is very eager to learn with you. Some of what he knows:

Sit/off/lose/here/come/free/ Follow

Up (jump on something)

Behind (walk behind you) Wait (stop what you are doing walk no further)

Through (through ’the tunnel’)

Over (jump over something) Between (come in behind – between your legs)

Grab the ball (grab whatever you are carrying at the time, Frisbee, ball, stick etc)

Search (find whatever you were carrying at the time, Frisbee, ball, stick etc)
